People who still have several teeth may want to consider other alternatives, such as an implant-supported dental bridge. That way we can help restore and retain any natural teeth when possible. If your teeth are badly damaged or have aggressive infections, we will recommend removing them instead. Otherwise, any remaining teeth must be extracted before All Teeth on 4 implant treatment can be performed.
For most people, that’s four implants per arch (your upper or lower jaw.)
On top of the implants, we install a full-arch, hybrid denture that’s more like a U-shaped dental bridge. This device is permanently attached on top of the four implants, restoring your entire smile. In addition to replacing all of the teeth in your arch, your appliance will also fill in gum tissue along each of those teeth.
Individuals who need extra support can benefit from an additional 1-2 implants under their ‘All-on’ implant appliance.
Best of all, you get to say what your new smile looks like. Dr Shah can create the fixed restoration with ‘teeth’ that are the colour, size, and shape of your choice.
Besides a healthy mouth, one of the other important characteristics of full-arch implant patients is someone who will clean around their appliance daily. A special floss threader, tufted floss, or water flosser will be needed.
Cleaning underneath your implant appliance, around each implant, and along the gum tissues underneath will help protect your restoration for years to come.
Not everyone with missing teeth or dentures qualifies for full-mouth dental implants. The best thing to do is meet with our implant dentists to discuss your options. We’ll review your oral health, bone anatomy, and personal expectations. If you don’t qualify for this treatment, another option may be available (such as an implant-supported overdenture.)
