At Smile Concepts, you would have an initial consultation with our doctors and find out if you are a good candidate for dental implant. Secondly, your Dental implant installation begins after your treatment plans have been drawn up and personally designed for you. During this procedure, we will numb each site and create a small opening in the bone, then cover the implants to allow them to integrate.

Meanwhile, sedation options are available during this appointment.

Osseointegration: 3-6 Months

How Long Does A Dental Implant Procedure Take?

Now, this is the most important phase of your entire dental implant treatment. It’s called ‘osseointegration’, which is where the bone inside your jaw fuses to the ribbed surface of your dental implant.

In fact, implants are made out of biocompatible materials that are naturally attractive to your bone tissue. Therefore, this is why integration is fairly predictable. The key is to have the implant installed in an area of healthy bone and then not disrupt it for at least three months, minimum. Sometimes, two or three more months are needed. Don’t worry – We can check on the integration process by taking an X-ray at your follow-up appointments.

During osseointegration, the implant will be covered by your gum tissues to prevent any irritation or pressure on the restoration. After that, temporary restorations are usually fitted if your missing tooth is in a noticeable part of your mouth.

Prepping for Your Dental Implant Restoration: 1-2 Visits

After your dental implants are fully integrated with the bone, we will uncover the top of each one by creating a small opening in your gum tissue. Meanwhile, numbing medication is all that’s required and since the incision is extremely small, an over-the-counter pain reliever is usually all you’ll need.

During this visit, we will attach a special device called an ‘abutment’ to each implant. The abutment screws into the top of each respecting implant and extends above the gums. It serves as an anchor for your fixed crown, bridge, or full-arch prosthesis.

After that, with your implant abutment fully in place, we’ll take an impression of your bite in that area. This mould is then sent to our lab, where your permanent restoration is designed to fit in that space.

Placement of Your Final Dental implant Restoration

At this stage, once your dental implant is fully integrated, the abutment is placed, and you’ve had impressions for your fixed implant restoration, it will be about two more weeks until the final appointment.

At this placement visit, we will attach the new crown, bridge, or implant-retained denture to your supporting abutments. For most people, this final phase of treatment is about six months after the implant placement appointment.
