Instructions for Invisalign Treatment

General Information:

a. The Invisalign packets that you have been given are numbered.

b. Each packet is to be worn for 1 week

c. Change you aligners at night as they are quite stiff when you put your new aligners in. By morning once you have slept with them they should have softened up and easier to remove.

d. When you place your first aligners, they may be a little uncomfortable, but this sensation will pass after the first couple of days.

e. When placing the aligners, you must align the aligners to your front teeth then push them into place, first at the back, then the middle and then at the front, you should hear a click once they are in.

f. There should be no gap between your teeth and the aligner, they should fit and be snug like a glove, if there are gaps between the aligners and teeth then please call Dr Shah ASAP.

Rules you have to follow:

a. You must wear your aligners for 24 hours a day.

b. You eat with them in.

c. Only take them out to brush your teeth.

d. They are fine to stay in while drinking all liquids, except hot drinks (these will melt the plastic).

Issues you may observe:

a. Speech may be impaired just while you get used to wearing the aligners. After that it will come back to normal

b. Aligners may not fit perfectly with a gap between the aligners and the teeth. Please call 9267 7777 if that happens or let Dr. Shah know at your next visit.

c. The aligners may feel tight and painful. Please take pain relief such as paracetamol or ibuprofen. The discomfort may last for a day to three days.

Maintenance:

  1. After eating it is highly recommended that you brush your teeth before you place the aligners in again.

  2. It is important to take your aligner case with you when you go out so that you can keep your aligners is a safe place. DO NOT PLACE THEM IN A TISSUE.

  3. If there is a sharp spot that is irritating your gums, file it down with a nail file.

  4. We recommend that you clean your aligners every night for 3 – 5 mins by soaking them in a mixture of white vinegar and water solution.  Alternatively, you can brush them with toothbrush and toothpaste

  5. Never place or wash your aligners in hot water as this can distort the shape of your aligners.

  6. If your attachments fall out, please let us know.

  7. If you have any questions, please call us on (02) 9267 7777.
