Instructions for Teeth Whitening

Applying the Bleaching Gel:

a. Do not fill the whole tray

b. Place a SMALL drop of tooth whitening gel half way up on the inner front surface of tray (in the front of each tooth in the tray).

c. Do not spread the bleach around. 

d. We recommend that you only bleach the front 8-10 teeth as no one sees the back teeth

Inserting the Bleaching Trays:

a. Insert whitening tray in the mouth over the teeth.

b. Seat the tray firmly against the teeth.

c. Wipe the excess gel, which seeps over the brim of the tray onto your gums, by holding the tray up with one hand, wipe the excess gel off of the gums with your finger or tissue.

d. Wear the tray with the gel as directed below

Wearing Time: (30-45 Minutes per day)

a. Perform teeth whitening procedure for 2 weeks.

b. You may choose to stop teeth whitening after a few days should you think that you have achieved the level of teeth whitening that you wish.

c. Store the rest of the teeth whitening gel in the fridge and use as needed in the future.

After Whitening:

a. Remove the tray and rinse off your teeth.

b. Brush any remaining gel away.

c. Brush, floss and continue routine dental cleaning.

d. Apply desensitizing gel if your teeth become too sensitive

Caring for Your Trays and Gel:

a. Clean whitening trays with a toothbrush or Q-tip and cold water.

b. Store trays in the tray holder and gel in cool dry place away from heat and direct sunlight.

c. The gel may be refrigerated to prolong the shelf life, but do not freeze.

Issues you will face during Teeth Whitening.

Your teeth or gums will most likely become sensitive. This is common while using all products containing peroxide based gels and it is not harmful.

a. Reduce usage time and/or frequency until the sensitivity subsides.

b. Please call our surgery on 9267 7777 if any help is required.

c. Take Ibuprofen 400mgs every 6 hours if needed to control pain. You may take it 1 hr before treatment

If too much gel has been placed in the tray and the overflow not wiped properly, then the gums will also bleach white and my get some burning.

a. Make sure you always palce the right amount of gel

b. Remove excess gel after placing the tray

c. If you have already got the condition, it will reverse itself in a few days.

d. Take pain relief as needed.

e. Call 9267 7777 if you are concerned at any point in time.

Certain foods and smoking can cause teeth staining when you are whitening your teeth

a. Avoid SMOKING

b. Avoid dark beverages like coffee, tea, dark soft drinks and red wine

c. Avoid juices, chocolates and dark berries like cherries and blueberries

It is recommended that you avoid staining foods and drinks for at least 48 to 72 hours after whitening your teeth.
