If you’re thinking about wearing Invisalign trays, what can you expect when it comes to treatment timeframes? Do Invisalign aligners work slower, quicker, or within the same timeline as traditional braces?

The short answer is, ‘it varies.’ Fortunately, Dr Manish Shah or Dr Kinnar Shah can give you an estimated timeframe before you commit to Invisalign treatment.

Average Invisalign Treatment Timeframe

Just like conventional braces, Invisalign treatments can vary from as quickly as six months to two years. Depending on the complexity of your tooth alignment, the treatment timeframe is based on the number of trays you need to wear throughout your Invisalign plan.

For example, someone with a few slightly crooked front teeth may only require minor tooth movement. Their Invisalign trays—when worn as directed—can help their teeth look straighter in just 3-6 months on average.

On the other hand, someone with average bite concerns will usually complete their Invisalign treatment in about 12-18 months.

Is Invisalign Faster Than Braces?

Depending on who you ask, some people will say that it is. One reason is that the treatment is digitally mapped out in advance and you progress your tooth movement at home, as opposed to coming into the office to have your braces adjusted every 4-6 weeks.

This approach allows for more consistent movement for a holistic—and efficient—teeth straightening process.

How to Find Out How Long Treatment Will Take

Every potential Invisalign client first completes an evaluation and orthodontic assessment. Our dentists in Sydney and Five Dock can scan your bite and input the virtual model into Invisalign’s state-of-the-art treatment planning software. From there, your teeth are digitally adjusted for the ideal alignment.

Once your proposed treatment plan is ready in the Invisalign software, we can show you a virtual ‘before and after’ of your tooth movement. It’s at this time we will be able to estimate the total number of trays required for your specific needs.

At this point, you can also discuss financing and treatment planning to decide if moving forward with Invisalign is something you’re ready for.

How to Speed Up Your Invisalign Treatment

The best way to prevent delays in your Invisalign results is to always wear your aligners as directed. Never change them out later or earlier than prescribed, as either scenario can contribute to relapse or treatment delays.

For most people, Invisalign trays need to be worn a minimum of 22 hours a day then changed out every 14 days. Each pair of aligners is slightly different from the previous pair, nudging your teeth toward the desired position.
