What is the root canal procedure?
Below are several steps involved in the root canal therapy. Our team carries out the entire root canal procedure or an endodontist is some cases. An endodontist is a professional dentist that specialises in root canal treatment and root therapy. We are not endodontists but dentist that have special interest in endodontics.
We will start the root canal therapy by creating a hole through the crown of the tooth down into the roots where the root canal procedures take place. The infected pulp is removed from the root canals and the area is then thoroughly cleansed to prepare for a special root canal filling
There are cases where the pulp chamber cannot be cleaned out completely, so a few days of draining may be required. If this occurs during your root therapy, a temporary cap will be placed on top of the tooth until your next visit.
If the previous step was necessary for your root canal treatment, then your temporary cap will be removed. Afterward, a special root canal filling is placed into the canals and then sealed for good. A permanent cap will be placed on the tooth at a later stage to prevent the fracture of the tooth, which will signify the end of your root canal therapy.
A tooth that has been restored by root canal treatment should last a long time if taken care of correctly.
